Here's an outstanding antique necklace made of a lightweight material that's believed to be tortoiseshell. Tortoiseshell was a popular material for jewelry and hair combs throughout the 19th century.
This piece features a nice big chain with individual links measuring 20mm x about 26mm (each slightly different) and a big 2 1/4" long pendant! The pendant is locket shaped, although it does not open. It has an applied carved monogram which could be AEI for amity eternity, infinity, although the "I" looks more like a "V" in this case. The clasp is a nice big hook clasp of the same material.

π Size: The chain is 21" long. The pendant, including the entire bail, is 3" long
π Condition: Very good for the age. There is one very shallow nick to the bottom of the pendant on the back and the monogram has a little bit taken off it on the one side as shown. Wears and shows beautifully!
